Who is eligible to apply for the Student Summer Internship Program?
Students must be juniors or seniors currently enrolled in Guilford County Schools and must be at least 16 years old by the start of the internship.

How much will students be paid?
Interns will earn $15 per hour during the program.

How many hours will students work?
Students must complete a minimum of 150 hours during the summer internship.

When will the internship take place?
The internship will take place during the summer months, beginning after the school year ends. Exact schedules will vary depending on the host company and the student’s placement.

Do students choose their internship site?
Students can indicate their interests, but final placements are determined by the program team and host companies based on availability and fit.

What types of internships are available?
Students may be placed with local businesses in industries such as manufacturing, culinary and hospitality, technology and gaming, and marketing and communications.

Is training required before the internship begins?
Yes. All selected interns must attend a mandatory 2-hour job readiness training session in early June before starting their internship.

How and when will students be paid?
Interns will be paid throughout the program.

Will students receive recognition for completing the internship?
Yes. Students who complete the required hours and program expectations will receive a Certificate of Completion.

What are the expectations for student interns?
Students are expected to:

  • Be on time and attend all scheduled work hours
  • Follow workplace dress codes and safety policies
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and strong communication
  • Participate actively in workplace tasks and learning experiences

What happens if a student cannot complete the required hours?
Students who do not meet the minimum 150-hour requirement or program expectations will not receive the Certificate of Completion and Credit Hour.
